Graduate Case Study – Charlotte Jackson – SDR at Papirfly
“The SaaSLeads Academy changed the direction my life was going in. I didn’t go to university or anything like that, so I thought I might be a bit out of my depth. But, they showed me everything I needed to learn and gave me the skills to progress.”
Discovering the Academy
Hi Charlotte. Let’s start at the beginning. What were you doing before you joined the SaaSLeads Academy and how did you get started there?
I was working for BUPA Health Insurance, in customer service, on the phone all day at the call centre. When we started working from home, I stopped enjoying it so much. I also didn’t feel like there was any career progression. So, I started looking for something new. I know Sonia, who is an SDR coach at SaaSLeads. She advised me to apply, saying it would be a good idea, so I tweaked my CV and sent it off.
The first interview was an informal chat with Abi. I got to roleplay as an SDR at Salesloft and sell the solution to a prospect, as well as record a Vidyard video and send an email. The next interview was with Laith who gave valuable feedback on the tasks, before I met the team at Papirfly, who I now work with. It was good because I liked the product and the people were really friendly and approachable. I was happy when I got the call to start at the SaaSLeads Academy.
How did you find your time at the Academy?
Honestly, it’s the best way to just throw yourself into something completely new. I’d never done sales before, and it was quite scary, but the Academy gives you the basics and the structure and then, you apply it yourself. How you apply what you learn is up to you, and you have the freedom to develop your own style. SaaSLeads carry on giving you support, and guide you so you don’t develop bad habits.
The guest speakers were really insightful, especially Mattia from Salesloft. She showed us how to put personality into our outreach. It was great to hear from someone who does it every day.
What skills did you gain at the Academy?
Communication skills, definitely. I’ve learned to be a better speaker, and I’ve improved at written communication too. My confidence has grown massively.
You’ve now graduated from the SaaSLeads Academy and working full-time as an SDR. How’s it going? What are your hopes for the future?
Life as an SDR is great. It’s hard, but you get a real feeling of achievement when you book a demo or hit your objectives. I’m still finding my feet and working on my style of doing things, but it’s going really well.
I definitely see myself progressing in this industry. SDR is a good stepping stone for gaining confidence and learning how sales works.
The SaaSLeads Academy changed the direction my life was going in. I didn’t go to university or anything like that, so I thought I might be a bit out of my depth. But, they showed me everything I needed to learn and gave me the skills to progress. It was an amazing experience.
Finally, can you sum up your SaaSLeads Academy experience in three words?
Intense (in a good way!). Enriching. Empowering.
