Discovering the Academy
Hi Ionut. Let’s start at the beginning. What were you doing before joining the SaaSLeads Academy, and how did you get started there?
I’d worked for a long time in insurance in Romania. Then, when I came to the UK in 2019, I was in direct sales selling alarms. I’d been thinking for a while about moving into tech sales. I studied computer science at university, so tech is something I’ve always been interested in.
When I saw the ad for SaaSLeads, it almost seemed too good to be true. Getting the training and being paid for it at the same time? Can you imagine?
After I applied, I had a meeting with Abi, and she put me in touch with Elliptic, who I would be selling for.
How did you find the Academy?
Although I had previous sales experience, there were a lot of new things to learn. They give you all the tools you need to do the job. But, the best part was that it wasn’t just about the theory; it was practical as well.
I enjoyed being able to apply what I learned talking to real prospects. The guest speakers were great too. It was really useful to hear from people who actually do the job you’re learning how to do.
What skills did you gain during your time at the Academy?
That’s a good question. I would say to listen, be curious, and think of the customer in everything you do.
At Elliptic, it’s all about what the customer wants, understanding their pains and finding out about their environment. That’s a big change from my previous jobs and my image of the selling process.
How has the SaaSLeads Academy changed your life?
I’ve had more than 15 years of professional experience, but I wanted a change. To be honest, a year ago, getting started in the tech world seemed like a distant objective. But, SaaSLeads helped me achieve it.
Now you’ve graduated and placed full time with a tech company, what are your hopes for the future?
I’m doing well in my new role at Elliptic. It’s a totally new environment for me and there’s always something new to discover, but I’m enjoying every moment of it. It’s an ongoing learning process that always challenges me to improve.
