Graduate Cast Study – Steven Campbell – SDR at Fidel
‘I’ve already recommended SaaSLeads Academy to many of my friends!’
‘Steven Campbell graduated from the SaaSLeads Academy in April this year and is already forging a great sales career at Fidel. We sat down with Steven to talk about his experiences at the Academy and how he is enjoying life as a full-time SDR!
Starting out
Hi Steven. Let’s start at the beginning. How did you first find out about the SaaSLeads Academy?
I first came across the SaaSLeads Academy on the Gradfuel job site. I wasn’t working at the time and I didn’t know anything about sales, but it looked like a great opportunity to learn new skills. I applied.
It was funny. Laith (Azzee, SDR Team Lead at SaaSLeads) called me up about my application and it turned out we were at the same university!
I then went for the interview. There was a test; we had to write a sales email and produce an outreach video. At the next stage, they dug deeper into my character. Then I got an email a few days later saying congratulations!
How would you describe the Academy to someone thinking about signing up?
Well, the funny thing is I’ve already recommended it to my friends! It’s hard work, harder than you expect, but you’re continuously learning and growing. You won’t believe how quickly those three months go by.
Skills
What was the main skill you developed at the SaaSLeads Academy?
Sales. The first part of the course is so intense when you’re learning what sales is, what SaaS is, why selling tech is different from anything else.
You must have picked up some personal development skills too?
For me, the big thing was communication. I’ve always had a fear of public speaking. I get nervous when it’s time to have a conversation.
It was great to sit down with Torron (Iveson, SDR Team Lead at SaaSLeads). He showed me some breathing techniques that helped me calm down. That goes beyond sales; that’s something that I can take with me forever.
Best bits
What was your favourite part of the programme?
In the second month, you really start to ramp up because you’re working as well as learning. You’re continuously learning how to communicate; you’re growing, filling in the gaps.
You must have some funny stories?
The calls. Always the calls! The first calls you make are hilarious. You spend hours preparing and then it comes to the point where you’re on the phone and you forget everything, all the basics!
We listen back to them as well. It’s always hilarious to sit with your team and listen to each other’s first calls.
Finally, can you sum up your SaaSLeads Academy experience in three words?
Intense. Exciting. Educational.
